Youth Offer
As we work with our partners to implement the youth strategy for young people 11-19 years, we have been able to establish a profile of provision delivering the opportunities within the strategy.

Sheffield futures has the lead role in the city to work with local partners to ensure provision is collaboratively planned and delivered avoiding duplication and best use of resources.

A key part of this development is to ensure young people are at the heart of this through participating in decision making, the design of provision and consultation.

Priorities for immediate future will be:-

  • Setting up a development group, involving all key partners to establish a plan to implement proposals from the Green Paper Youth Matters.

  • Establishing processes to expand projects through the youth opportunity fund, following the publication of national guidance.

  • Developing a core offer for young people across the city building on the youth strategy opportunities.

The Youth Strategy

The effectiveness of the Youth Strategy will be achieved through seeking to provide young people generally with an entitlement to a wide range of opportunities and support to develop their personal and social skills.

The opportunities are:

  • Opportunities to develop their skills and confidence to enable them to have their voice heard both collectively through democratic processes and collective decision-making and as individual citizens and consumers;

  • Opportunities to engage in wide range of recreational activities in good quality facilities which are fit for purpose;

  • Opportunities to meet other young people socially in places which relate to their current interests;

  • Opportunities to be able to study, do homework and revise in places in addition to school and home;

  • Opportunities to contribute to living in a safe, clean and pleasant environment;

  • Opportunities for work experience, volunteering and fund raising;

  • Opportunities to receive advice, guidance and support in respect of a wide range of personal matters;

  • Opportunities to obtain information on all the above and to have them available throughout the year and at appropriate times;

  • Opportunities to be involved regardless of ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or gender.

Where young people are disaffected and disengaged or may be involved in anti-social behaviour a targeted approach will be used to ensure better outcomes for these identified young people.
