To meet our remit, referrals have to be for a family, and there has to be serious anti-social behaviour being committed. The decision of whether to offer a family support is based on;
We aim to work with the most challenging families. All referrals are assessed by a key-worker who reports to the multi-agency admissions panel. A joint decision is then made by the panel on whether to offer a family high support. The panel includes representatives from social services, the police, education, the anti-social behaviour team, area housing offices, the youth offending team, and the Housing Solutions service. The panel also reviews ongoing cases and agrees exit strategies for families. Any professional can make a referral. To make a referral, please contact us on 0114 266 5963 or 266 1870. One of our team will ensure that the family meet our remit, and then we will send you a referral form and a "seek and share" form. The "seek and share" form has to be signed by the family and returned with the referral to enable us to share information about the family from other agencies. We need this to give us the necessary background information for a worker to be able to start the assessment process. The duration of support varies depending on each family and their needs. The average duration is 18-24 months, however we will work with families for longer if necessary. Some families undergo successful changes more quickly and so are involved with the service for less time. We currently work with 25 families from across the city. The High Support Service is an intensive family intervention project delivered by the Housing Solutions Service. The service sits within Sheffield’s Anti Social Behaviour Strategy and Homelessness Strategy and works alongside other agencies managing anti social behaviour. The service was set up in 2003 following a model of good practice in Dundee, to address the issue of families trapped in cycles of homelessness due to anti-social behaviour. It was intended that this service tackled the root causes of anti-social behaviour rather than just moving the problem around the city. The dispersed and outreach properties are scattered throughout the city, with the locations depending on referrals. The Core Building is based near the city centre at a secure address, to protect the privacy of residents. Our staff are trained in a range of well-evaluated and accredited parenting programmes. We regularly run the Webster-Stratton Incredible Years Programme, as well as a Living With Teenagers Course, a Violence-Free Relationships course and many one-off sessions focusing on a range of issues including managing stress, healthy minds, and fire safety.
