The Sheffield High Support Service (SHSS) is an intensive family intervention project (FIP) delivered by the Sheffield City Council Housing Solutions Service. We support families who are evicted, or are at risk of being evicted, for anti social behaviour. The service aims to support families to change their anti-social behaviour and successfully hold a tenancy.

The principle behind the service is high support, alongside high challenge, and appropriate use of enforcement action. We work to support families to make positive changes to their communication and behaviour. Where necessary we will also use legal remedies to motivate the family to change.

Families that we work with either stay living in their homes or come to live in our core building accommodation. We use different methods of service provision depending on the family’s housing circumstances.

The service has been comprehensively evaluated by Sheffield Hallam University as part of a wider evaluation of several family intervention projects. This evaluation showed family intervention projects to have a success rates greater than 80%, and to offer substantial long-term cost savings to a range of government services.
